We have also received a preliminary proposal for funding in 2011.
Next year’s Workshop and Festival (March or April of 2011) will be held in Krakow at Przegorzały Guest House of the Jagiellonian University. The event will be accompanied by OffPlusCamera Festival. (www.offpluscamera.com) We will be working together with one of the world’s most advanced film studios, Alvernia Studios. (www.alverniastudios.com.pl)
Our Workshop and Festival are to be sponsored by the Sony Corporation.
We hope that this change will not affect the spontaneous and joyful character of our meetings.
Film Spring Open 2011 Workshop and Festival Program

FSO2011- we meet to make movies
We invite young moviemakers to FSO Workshop and Festival, which are to be held in March of April of 2011 in Cracow Poland. There are hundreds of festivals worldwide where movies are only watched. At FSO Festival we want to make them together. Painters have their locations where they can create their works and discuss them in the evenings.
Why can’t moviemakers have the same?
The Film Spring Open meetings are Workshop and Festival for moviemakers. At FSO we will be making movies rather than watching them. We will be having interesting discussions about our creations as well. You can bring your cameras, laptops, and friends with whom you would like to work. Moviemaking can be fun too. The grand finale is the OffPlusCamera Festival held in April 2011, at which we will show the movies we have made. www.offpluscamera.com
Action + Education
The FSO Workshop and Festival will be accompanied by a lectures and presentations devoted to the future of moviemaking and the newest technologies.
We would like to talk about the latest techniques for imaging (3D) and postproduction. We will discuss the CGI, Motion Capture, Color Correction, and future narration techniques (interactive dramaturgy). Lectures will be held at Avernia Studios, which is equipped with the latest tools for movie production and postproduction (www.alverniastudios.com.pl). We expect to make a presentation of the equipment by Sony, Canon, Arri, and 3D rigs . We invite experts in the field to be our lecturers.
At FSO Workshop and Festival we are talking about the future rather than the past.
The audience is waiting for your movies
Please, bring your movies with you! Nightly screenings and the FilmSpringer audience will lend them wings. We’ve been doing this for six years, so we know that the FSO nights never end. FilmSpringers make a wonderful audience.
Our history
FSO Festival began two years ago. They are continuation of the Workshop held in Jurata on the Hel Peninsula since 2004. The FSO2009 Workshop and Festival was attended by more than a hundred moviemakers from ever part of Europe. They made movies, viewed works made by their colleagues, and participated in vivid discussions. And most importantly, it was a real fun for everyone. Next year we are inviting you to Cracow in Poland.
Filmspringers in love
That’s the theme we are suggesting again for the Festival. The common theme of all your movies will be love stories written by you. A couple of FilmSpringers are watching each other and talking before their cameras. They can improvise and have a good time or perhaps write a script and closely follow it. You can engage actors or become actors in your own movies. Holding a running camera in your hands, you can flirt with a chosen partner. The most important thing is to have a wonderful time as you make your movies.
All the individual love stories will be put together at the Workshop and Festival into a single movie, which is to be shown at the PlusOffCamera festival in Cracow . We also believe that we can make sequels, which can be place on the Internet. It is possible that a new form of a series will be made from combining all these different love stories.
No all of you will be able to come to FSO Workshop and Festival but you will be still able to make movies from your home. We will soon run a new section called FilmSpringers in Love 2011 at FilmSpringOpen.eu, where you could send your works. We will be editing them together, combing different love stories, but everyone will be able to create their own version of the film. You must remember that the proposed theme is a mere suggestion, because at the FSO you do what you please. You can invite your friends with who you want to work. At FSO Workshop and Festival you will meet young European filmmakers similar to you. Our annual Film Spring workshop (six years old) has resulted in cooperation and partnership between many young European filmmakers who have been working together since they met at the event.
We invite everyone!
Film Spring Open

Film Spring Open Warsztaty i Plener

Film Spring Open team

Malarze mają swoje „plenery” gdzie malują swoje obrazy, a wieczorem razem rozmawiają o sztuce.
Akcja + Edukacja
Plenerom FSO towarzyszyć będę warsztaty poświęcone przyszłości sztuki filmowej i demonstracja nowoczesnych technologii.
Chcemy rozmawiać o najnowocześniejszych technikach zdjęciowych (3D) i postprodukcyjnych.
Nocne projekcje i widownia FilmSpringersów doda im skrzydeł. FilmSpringersi to wspaniała widownia.
Nasza historia
„Filmspringers in love „
Wspólnym tematem będą wymyślone przez was historie miłosne.
Zaproście znajomych z którymi chcecie pracować i przyjeżdżajcie.
Zapraszamy
Film Spring Open team

Film Spring Open Festival 2009 - summary

(polish)

The 2009 Film Spring Open Festival is officially closed, and I thank you all for your input and excellent time. Hotels “Jantar” and “Delfin” on the Hel Peninsula had the pleasure of welcoming nearly 110 filmmakers from Finland, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, and Poland, which was 150% more than the previous year. Our workshops began five years ago. It was a small group of fifteen German and Swiss filmmakers, which has been constantly growing ever since. The idea of a collective film making has become increasingly more attractive over the years. Besides new participants there are a lot of “regulars”, who come to workshop every year. For many participating filmmakers our workshops have become permanent fixture in their itineraries. This year is no exception.

Our Participants have made or are in the process of completing a total of 12 movies at our festival. We had an opportunity to watch their efforts at late night screenings, and to vigorously discuss them. Despite the gloomy weather, they have made some dynamic and funny movies. We will present them on our website as quickly as they are ready.

Moreover, we had meetings with our special guests. Bogdan Dziworski, professor at film school in Katowice, made a presentation of his documentaries. Antoni Jakubiak, programmer and Web developer, talked about new trends in improving the Film Spring Open website. Michael Bukojemski showed a 3D movie, and talked about the technology it utilized. Almost every evening the participants could share their recent productions with one another.

We had long discussions about the future of the European film, sharing experiences, and the necessity of cooperation.

I invite you again to return to Film Spring Open Festival next year.

W hotelu Jantar i Delfin w Juracie pojawiło się w ciągu trzech tygodni trwania festiwalu październiku około 110 filmowców z Finlandii, Norwegii, Szwecji, Francji,Niemiec, Szwajcarii, Irlandii i Polski.

Codziennie kręcili kolejne sceny do swoich filmów. Pomimo ponurej pogody powstały filmy dynamiczne i śmieszne.

Bogdan Dziworski profesor ze szkoły filmowej w Katowicach pokazywał swoje filmy dokumentalne, Antoni Jakubiak programista naszej strony opowiadał o kierunkach rozwoju strony Film Spring Open.

Dużo rozmawialiśmy o przyszłości kina w Europie i o rzeczywistej potrzebie współpracy i wymiany doświadczeń.

Zapraszam na Film Spring Open Festival w przyszłym roku

Sławomir Idziak

Film Open Festival- we don’t show films, we MAKE films

Film Open Festival- we don’t show films, we MAKE films
(polish)
Film Spring Open festival is on the roll again. Apart from the participants of the workshops organized by International Film School - Germany, Focal- Switzerland, Film School -Finland, Medie Fabrikken Norway, Cat Studio- France, and Polish Filmmakers Association, we will be pleased to welcome to the Hel Peninsula the very same international group of artists we had the pleasure of meeting last year. Participants of Film Spring 2008 this year’s will be working together on the Young European Filmmakers Project organized by Florent Pallares of France.
Moreover, Jacek Szymczak has created a workshop for documentary filmmakers Media TVN, which is to take place during the FSO as well.
There are a growing number of filmmakers who have declared their willingness to participate in the open part of the Festival. Let me remind you that this year we are shooting love stories, in which actors’ prop is a rolling camera (phone camera as well) in his hand. Our Film Spring motto this year is
“Film Springer’s in Love”
Melodramas are a good dramaturgical material in ninety percent of all movies. We live to love and it is love that puts sense into our existence. Love is not just a verbal understanding. Our consciousness starts to linger behind. From the very beginning unconsciousness builds a shrine around us, a sort of spiritual magnetic field whose two poles are He and She. A camera is a tool that can capture this phenomenon, but it’s not easy job. A filmmaker who can do that will never have a problem to convey a message to the audience.
You have to start thinking about it now. What do you want your love story to be like? A tragic one? Funny? Do you want it to be a well told story that keeps the viewer in suspense or perhaps a poetic impression with plenty of music? You can start writing your script and think about who should be playing in your movie. Do you want to be a director and an actor in one or you prefer watching your actors from a distance? Do you want to play along with your real life partner or you would like to make an audition for actors? Should your movie be based on a true story or be completely made up? Is it difficult for you to answer these questions? Don’t worry about that! At Jurata, Hel Peninsula you will meet others who have similar problems and doubts. You will be able to brainstorm for ideas and to find solutions together. You will be looking at different projects, give advice to others, and have fun during making a movie.
Our motto “Filmspringers in Love” we can change to “Cells in Love”.
A cell phone is an omnipresent accessory of modern man. We can take a closer look at it, its evolution, or its positive or negative impact on our emotional life. In your movies a phone camera will often be present on the screen. You can think how to make use of this device or how this little camera can change the way we tell our story. I suggest starting our debate on this subject.
There is a new forum on the festival page where you can talk about it as well as all other subjects connected with the festival. You’re always welcome to join our discussion forums.

To miłość nadaje sens naszemu życiu.
W Juracie spotkasz innych mających te same problemy i wątpliwości. Wzajemnie możecie szukać pomysłów i rozwiązań.
Why shouldn’t we? Film Spring Open is a plein air for filmmakers created to give you the opportunity to network, socialize, relax, get inspired and make a film at the same time.
Film Spring Open Festival took place first time last year. It turned out to be amazing. Around thirty filmmakers came to Jurata and spontaneously made films; they participated in the seminars and took part in the discussions. But for most of them it was great fun and an opportunity to learn about filmmaking and opportunity to meet interesting people. We want to continue with Film Spring Open this year and again we invite everyone to Jurata, Hel Peninsula, Poland between the 5th and the 25th of October 2009. We invite all filmmakers for Film Spring Open, Festival of Filmmaking. There are hundreds of festivals where films are being watched but during Film Spring Open we want to make films together.
“Filmspringers in Love”
is the motto that we propose as a subject of our films that you will shoot during Film Spring Open 2009. That means that those films will be love stories (fictional of course;-) told by the cameras.

I imagine that this could be a joint fun of filmmaking. A pair of filmmakers observes each other and dialogs in front of the cameras. They can improvise. They can also carry out a previously written script. You can engage actors, but also you can play in your films, talking and walking with the chosen film partner, filming and holding a camera in your hands.
Chosen love threads we will edited during our workshops into one film, so we can send it to film festivals. We also take into account that we can continue this “Fun” and shoot follow up episodes that we will upload in the internet and we can try and present them to some TV channels. Maybe a new show format will come out of all this, which will be editing together from your individual love stories.

Not everyone will be able to come and be at Film Spring Open Festival but you can make this film in your home. Very soon on our online service FilmSpringEditing.com will put a section titled “FilmSpringers in Love 2009” and there you will be able to upload your movies. We will edit them with all the other films and also all of you will have a chance to edit your own version.
Remember the subject is only a suggestion because during FSO everyone makes whatever they feel like. Bring your own cameras, laptops, bring your friends and just come to Jurata. There you will meet filmmakers just like you.

Sławomir Idziak
www.filmspringopen.com www.filmspringagency.com www.filmspringediting.com www.filmspringjournal.com- Social Networking for Filmmakers

Malarze mają swoje „plenery” gdzie malują swoje obrazy a wieczorem razem rozmawiają o sztuce. Dlaczego filmowcy nie mogę mieć tego samego? Film Spring Open Festiwal to właśnie „plenery” dla filmowców. Zamiast oglądać na FSO my filmy kręcimy a jednocześnie dyskutujemy i poznajemy filmowców z całej Europy.
„Filmspringers in love „
Wspólnym Tematem będą wymyślone przez was historie miłosne.

Second edition of Film Spring Open – FilmMaking Festival 5-25.10.2009 will take place in Hel Penisula, Poland

It’s a festival where participants MAKE films and watch and discussed what they produce. Painters have their “plein airs” at which they get together to paint their pictures and then spend evenings admitting and discussing each other’s work. With all the modern tools already available, filmmakers can now try and do the same. Everyone can come – producers, directors, scriptwriters, actors, cinematographers, composers, sound artists, production designers, editors, visual effects artists and anyone with an interest in film. Bring your cameras, your laptops with video edit software, your ideas for the movies you would like to make — and persuade friends who can be of any help to come along with you. Four people can share the Taxi and its price. During three sunny weeks spent by the Polish seaside a group of 22 filmmakers from Germany, Finland, France, Poland and Switzerland made a feature drama under the artistic supervision of Slawomir Idziak. The first week was spent on scriptwriting, dramaturgy workshops as well as location scouting and preparations for the shoot. The film was then shot over a period of two weeks and was edited parallel to the shooting so that new complete scenes were watched each night. Filmmakers changed roles for each scene so that the director of one scene was the 1st AD on the next scene and looked after props for the other scene. Similarly the cinematographers swapped roles for each scene and worked together to make a visually compelling film.
Parallel to the Film Spring workshop filmmakers, students and enthusiasts from Poland as well as other European countries such as Germany or Sweden came to Jurata for a few weeks, a few days or ever a few hours to be a part of the Film Spring Open group. Even though people kept coming and going, the filmmakers managed to make a few short and funny films, which will be available to watch on this website as soon as the final cut is ready.
Thank you to all filmmakers who attended the workshop and to all the creative, talented and amazing people who joined the Film Spring Open group to make short, independent films. You made this year a success!
To see pictures, comments, reflections and feedback of people who visited, please go to Ideas Forum – Film Spring 2008.

There has been some significant interest in Film Spring from the Media. It’s a festival where we MAKE films and watch what you produce. It’s a form of plein-air film workshops where you can meet young and enthusiastic filmmakers from all over the world, make a film and have a great holiday. Active form of social networking for filmmakers The festival takes place parallel to the Film Spring workshop which is already in its fourth year. This year, however, Film Spring is OPEN to you all. Everyone can come – producers, directors, scriptwriters, actors, cinematographers, composers, sound artists, production designers, editors, visual effects artists and anyone with an interest in film.

Although we will encourage you to make a short film during your stay, which we will screen at the end and on the website, you can come simply to network and make new, international friends. The proposed title for this year’s productions is CLICKING LOVE. Take it wherever you want. The title is open to your interpretation. If for some reason you cannot join us for the filmMAKING festival you can still participate by sending us your finished film to: Film Spring Open Film Festival, WZW "Jantar", 84-141 Jurata, ul. Wojska Polskiego, Poland by 10th October 2008. After the festival we will attempt to edit the submitted films into one longer film.

Location: Film Spring Open will be based in WZW "Jantar" Hotel 84-141 Jurata, ul. Wojska Polskiego, Poland.

Cheap airlines (Ryanair, Wizzair, etc) fly to Gdansk and then it’s just a short train/taxi journey away.

We hope to see you there!

FILM SPRING FESTIVAL for Young Filmmakers in Hel Peninsula

So far three editions of the Film Spring workshops were held during which filmmakers from four European countries (Finland, Germany, Norway and Switzerland) jointly produced 40-minute feature films based on scripts they developed online.

The Film Spring workshops serve to build Social network for filmmakers. Its website (www.filmspring.eu) was the platform for consultations and preparation work by the international team making the feature films. The success of the workshops so far — two 40-minute features completed and the third one in postproduction — prompted its organizers to set up a website facilitating the making of films while exploiting the possibilities offered by the Internet.

In developing the website we fell back on our experiences with the FilmSpringers working on their film projects.

Increasing numbers of young European filmmakers want to take part in our workshop. This year we will be hosting film artists from new countries: France, Poland and probably also Ireland.

Regrettably, the number of workshop participants is limited by the budget available to its organizers.

We have now come up with a new idea. This year, in addition to the Film Spring participants, we would also like to invite to Jurata on the Hel Peninsula in Poland all those who want to get in touch with young European filmmakers, who do not want to sit on their hands but get up and start making films. Painters have their “plein airs” at which they get together to paint their pictures and then spend evenings admitting and discussing each other’s work. With all the modern tools already available, filmmakers can now try and do the same. Is there any reason why we should not have a festival at which films are made rather than just screened?

All young, English-speaking filmmakers are invited to come to the Jantar Hotel in Jurata (Hel Peninsula, Poland) to the “Film Spring Open” festival (5–26 October 2008). Bring your cameras, your laptops with video edit software, your ideas for the movies you would like to make — and persuade friends who can be of any help to come along with you.

More information will soon be available on our website

Slawomir Idziak

The production rooms are now available.
